STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern cross country team will compete in the Southern Conference Championships Saturday at Laurel Hill Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The women's 5K race is slated to start at 10 a.m.
The Eagles have quite a bit of familiarity with the course as they raced there twice already this fall. Georgia Southern placed third in the Bulldog Invitational at Laurel Hill Sept. 29, and the Eagles were seventh at the Will Wilson Citadel Invitational Oct. 13.
Five Eagles ran their best times this season at the Will Wilson Invitational. Sara Curry finished in 18:39.63, and Asea Mayfield posted a mark of 20:02.44. Jami Joyner had a time of 20:33.58, and Kristiana Towns finished in 21:59.04. Amanda Ventre posted a time of 22:32.00.
Lindsay Mullican has the Eagles' third-fastest time this season with a 20:27.22 at the UWG Invitational. Alexandra Langmo's best time of the season was a 22:42.00 at the College of Charleston Invitational.
Curry won the Bulldog Invitational at Laurel Hill Plantation with a time of 18:55.59, and Mullican was ninth with a time of 20:49.08. Joyner and Mayfield finished 13th and 14th, respectively.
"We want the team to be consistent and go out there and do what we've been training to do all season," said Eagle head coach Marlo Mincey. "To be successful, we need to execute race plans and make corrections on the things we need to work on from when we ran this course previously."
