STATESBORO, Ga. – The website College Sports Madness has picked Eric Ferguson and Jelani Hewitt to its 2012 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Teams. Ferguson, a native of Statesboro, earned first team honors while Hewitt (Miramar, Fla.) was selected to the third team.
A consensus first-team All-SoCon honoree last year, Ferguson enters his junior season with 835 career points. He was picked as RushTheCourt.net’s 2011-12 SoCon Player of the Year, ranking fifth in the league with 15.4 points per game. Last year in the SoCon Tournament, the Eagle matched his career high with 26 points against Chattanooga and 21 more versus Elon to pick up All-Tournament Team honors.
Hewitt enters his junior campaign as the Eagles most potent three-point threat. Last year he knocked down 57-of-144 tries from downtown and averaged 10.5 points per game. Hewitt ranked among the SoCon leaders with 1.26 steals per game and his game-winning basket at Chattanooga sparked a six-game winning streak.
The 2012-13 season starts on November 9th with the Eagles traveling to Valparaiso for the return-leg of the home-and-home series. The Eagles’ first home contest is on November 16th against Webber International. Fans will get their first chance to see the Eagles at Hanner Havoc on October 30th starting at 8 p.m.
