STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men’s Soccer puts a bow on the 2012 non-conference schedule with a trip to face North Carolina on Tuesday night from Fetzer Field.
Last time out, GSU scored twice, but couldn’t get past Presbyterian College on the road. Chase Park and David Vargas Masis each scored their first goals of the season as an own goal doomed the Eagles in the 80th minute.
In 2012, the Eagles are led by freshman Reed Norton and senior Joe Hughes with three goals each. Drew Ruggles has scored twice including a free kick against Wake Forest two weeks ago.
The 2-7 Eagles enter the mid-week clash on a six-game skid. Tuesday night’s clash will be the third for GSU against a squad ranked in the NSCAA rankings. UNC was ranked sixth in the latest poll, released on September 25th.
The Tar Heels enter Tuesday’s contest at 7-1-1 overall, scoring 13 goals while conceding just three. UNC is unbeaten at home and feature two players, Mikey Lopez and Boyd Okwuonu who recently received calls to the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team for games later in October.
Martin Murphy has four goals to lead the Tar Heels while Andy Craven has scored three times with two assists for North Carolina.
Georgia Southern opens league play on Saturday, October 6th, traveling to Davidson. The eagles close their seven-game road swing on Tuesday, October 9th, with a trip to Appalachian State.
