BY THE NUMBERS - EAGLE MEN'S BASKETBALL
STATESBORO, Ga. - "By the Numbers" spotlights a Georgia Southern Athletics team with statistics, rankings and other interesting items of note during our Eagles' seasons. The Eagle Men's Basketball team is the featured squad this week.
3: Georgia Southern is a perfect 3-0 in Southern Conference play and will play at Davidson, also currently 3-0 in the league, on Saturday at 3 p.m. on the SoCon TV Network and ESPN3.com.
14: Career-high rebounds for Eric Ferguson, a component of his second double-double this season, and fourth in his career, as the sophomore had a game-high 21 points against the Phoenix Thursday night.
17: Ben Drayton III went 7-10 in the second half with two three pointers and a free throw against the Phoenix Thursday night, sparking the Eagles' rally with his 17 points. The game marked Drayton's eighth-straight double-figure game and 10th of the season.
46.7: Three Eagles currently rank in the top 15 of the SoCon statistics chart for three-point field goal percentage, the most of any league institution, with Tré Bussey checking in at No. 2 at 46.7, Willie Powers III fourth at 45.2 and Jelani Hewitt at 40.3 for 15th.
56.7: Field goal percentage for Eric Ferguson going into the Elon game, which ranks him 30th in the nation in that statistical category.
60: Frank Florian was carried off the floor by excited fans after scoring 60 of the Eagles' 123 points in a 1964 win over Jacksonville in Alumni Gym. That total still stands as a Georgia Southern single-game record.
78: In the Eagles' SoCon opener against Chattanooga, five Eagles, Ben Drayton III (20), Jelani Hewitt (20), Eric Ferguson (17), Tré Bussey (11) and Willie Powers III (10) scored in double figures, accounting for 78 of the 84 points in the win.
1992: This season marks the 20th anniversary of Georgia Southern's 1992 appearance in the NCAA tournament when current Head Coach Charlton "C.Y." Young was the Eagles' starting point guard.
1,159: Willie Powers III became the most recent addition to Georgia Southern's 1,000-point club with his first two points in the 2011-2012 opener and now has 1,159 career points. The senior point guard is tied for fifth on the Eagles' career list with 373 assists and currently stands third among the active career leaders for assists in the SoCon.
2,542: Chester Webb, whose number 22 was retired in 2010, scored 2542 points during his four-year career to stand as the program's all-time leading scorer. Webb averaged 24 points per game and tallied 24 games with 30 or more points, including nine games of 40 points or more.
