STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Basketball takes on the Samford Bulldogs on Thursday night at the Pete Hanna Center in Birmingham, Ala. The contest begins at 8 p.m. and can be heard seen on ESPN3.com as well as audio on the Georgia Southern Radio Network.
Georgia Southern is back in winning form with victories over College of Charleston and The Citadel to close out a stretch of three games in five days. The victory over The Citadel took the Eagles to 8-11 overall and 6-3 in league play, a half game clear of Wofford for second place in the Southern Conference South Division.
SoCon Player of the Year Candidate Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) has 15.9 points per game this year to lead the team and 7.1 rebounds per game. In league play, however, Ferguson's numbers have been even better with the sophomore scoring 17.0 points per game.
The Eagles squeezed out a 58-53 victory over the Bulldogs on January 12th behind 11 points and 12 rebounds from Ferguson. Sophomore Jelani Hewitt (Miramar, Fla.) earned top scorer honors for the Eagles that night with 13 points while Willie Powers III (Gainesville, Fla.) scored 12 points.
Following that game, Sanford has won two of its last three game, downing Chattanooga at home, 81-70, and taking a road win from Elon, 86-80. On Sunday night the Bulldogs fell by a single point to UNCG, 61-60 as the Spartans made a last-second shot for the win.
The Eagles head further north after Thursday's game for a Saturday night encounter with Chattanooga at the Mckenzie Arena. Saturday's game starts at 7:30 p.m.
