Seventh Annual Pack the House in Pink Set for Saturday

STATESBORO, Ga.- The seventh annual "Pack the House in Pink" event is set for the Eagle Basketball games at Hanner Fieldhouse Saturday, January 21st, with the Lady Eagles welcoming Western Carolina at 3 p.m. and the Men's Basketball team playing host to Charleston at 7:30 p.m. "Pack the House in Pink" is a tribute to all individuals who have lost the battle with breast cancer, those who are currently battling breast cancer, and those who have conquered breast cancer.
Activities surrounding the event will focus on raising awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer and for life-saving research. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the games in the spirit of the event. Both Eagle Basketball teams will sport pink shoe laces to show their support and pink towels will be used during the game on the benches.
The Statesboro Service League is sponsoring the display of a pink fire truck in front of Hanner Fieldhouse. Pink decorations will welcome fans inside and paper pink ribbons for honoring or remembering friends or family members who battled breast cancer will be available for $1 each with the entire amount donated to the cause. The "Pennies for Pink" campaign continues this weekend as fans are asked to bring their spare change and place it in the bright pink containers located in the lobby.
The Zeta Tau Alpha sorority will sell pink T-shirts for $15 prior to the "Pack the House in Pink" game at Hanner Fieldhouse. Zeta Tau Alpha will also hold a bake sale at Hanner on game day and will have sorority members available with pink paint to face paint. The Phi Mu sorority will present a "Kiss Away Cancer" sign at halftime of the Men's Basketball game. Leading up to halftime, fans can kiss the sign for $1 and receive a pink lei as part of this fundraiser.
Fans who arrive early to Hanner Fieldhouse can receive several premium items. The first 50 fans at Hanner Fieldhouse for both games will receive a free pink T-shirt courtesy of The University Store and Chick-fil-A sandwiches. Employees of East Georgia Medical Center receive a special $1 admission price to Saturday's game when they present their hospital badge and wear pink.
The Lady Eagles will honor three breast cancer survivors prior to their game against the Catamounts. Pam Cowart, Suzanne Lowe and Elizabeth Myers will be presented with a pink rose from Frazier's Flowers. The Rocket Stars will provide halftime entertainment for the Lady Eagles' game and Southern Explosion will perform at halftime of the Men's Basketball game. Coach Charlton "C.Y" Young will present Willie Powers III with his 1,000-point basketball prior to the start of the 7:30 p.m. game against the College of Charleston.
Four teams from the Statesboro-Bulloch Parks and Recreation Department will play during the intermission between the Eagles' games. Any child who wears their rec department team basketball jersey to the games will be admitted for a $1.
Groups volunteer their time and effort to make "Pack the House in Pink" a successful event year after year: Statesboro Women's Service League, Komen Coastal Georgia, Colleges Against Cancer, Zeta Tau Alpha, Phi Mu, and Rocket Stars.
Single-game tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children (ages 3-12). A $25 flex package, which includes five tickets that can be used for one game or split among several games. The ticket windows at Hanner Fieldhouse will open at 12 p.m. Hanner Fieldhouse is located at 590 Herty Drive, at the corner of Fair Road (Highway 67) and Herty Drive in Statesboro.
