STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Basketball plays host to College of Charleston on Saturday night inside Hanner Fieldhouse. The game can be seen on ESPN3.com and Eagle Vision starting at 7:32 p.m. The Eagles can snap a two-game skid against the Cougars and move a full game past Charleston for second place in the SoCon South Division.
The Eagles enter Saturday's contest at 6-11 overall and 4-3 in league play following Thursday night's loss at Furman. GSU couldn't overcome a 10-point halftime deficit and a strong start to the second half by the Paladins. Southern rattled off a 12-0 run in the middle portions of the second half, but it only got the Eagles within five points before the Paladins re-took control of the game and the 64-54 final result.
Sophomore Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) scored 15 points for the Eagles against the Paladins and took four steals as Georgia Southern recorded a season-high 13 steals in the contest. Tré Bussey (Lithia Springs, Ga.) made his first start of the season and scored 10 points on a pair of first half three-pointers.
The College of Charleston comes into Saturday's game at 12-6 overall and 4-3 in league play after dropping a 87-69 contest to Davidson on Thursday night. The Cougars are in a three-way tie for second place in the SoCon South with Georgia Southern and Wofford. Antwaine Wiggins leads the Cougars in scoring with 16.6 points per game overall and 13.7 points per game in league play.
The Eagles wrap up a string of three games in five days on Monday night against The Citadel. Game time for the contest against the Bulldogs is 7 p.m. from Hanner Fieldhouse.
