Georgia Southern Faces Test Against Brewton-Parker

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Basketball returns to Hanner Fieldhouse on Monday evening, January 2nd, to face Brewton-Parker at 7:30 p.m. The game is part of Georgia Southern's Dollar Days with tickets costing just a dollar for the doubleheader which begins with the Lady Eagles facing Wofford at 5 p.m.
The Eagles (3-8) return to the friendly confines to open 2012 with the chance to snap a four-game skid. In their last outing, Georgia Southern came up three points short on the road against Auburn last Thursday. Senior Willie Powers III (Gainesville, Fla.) scored 23 points with five assists in the game to lead all scorers.
Sophomore Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) leads the team with 14.9 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per contest. Ferguson is also the Eagles' top shot blocker with 10 blocks in the season's first 11 games. Senior Ben Drayton III (St. Marys, Ga.) has 11.9 points per game and leads the team with 18 steals.
In the Auburn game, Powers moved into 29th place on the Georgia Southern career scoring list, passing Michael Curry for 31st place and Sonny Clements for 30th place. Powers now has 1,132 career points. Drayton also made a move in the Auburn game, moving into 23rd place with 1,270 career points.
Georgia Southern has won 10-straight games over the Barons dating back to the 1930-31 season and own a 15-2 overall record against Brewton-Parker. Last season Ferguson's 22 points and 10 rebounds carried the Eagles to an 86-74 win over the Barons.
Monday's game is the final non-conference game for the Eagles who return to conference play with games at Elon and Davidson over the next week. The Davidson game on Saturday, January 7th, can be seen on the SoCon TV Network and online at ESPN3.com starting at 3 p.m.
