Eagles Enter 2011 SoCon Tournament as No. 3 Seed

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern plays host to the 18th Southern Conference Softball Championships at Eagle Field, with the first of five games beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11th. No. 3 seed Georgia Southern opens its bid for a third SoCon Tournament title against No. 6 seed UNCG on Wednesday, May 11th, at 7 p.m. The Eagles closed their home schedule against the Spartans with a three-game series sweep on April 22nd and 23rd.
The Eagles (28-27, 16-8 SoCon) are 40-31 all-time in the SoCon Tournament with championships in 1999 and 2006. Against UNCG (24-30, 10-14), Georgia Southern leads the all-time series by a 40-22 margin and holds an 8-2 advantage in SoCon Tournament play. In the regular season, GSU topped the Spartans 3-1, 8-0 and 7-2 to take the series. The highlight of the weekend was Allie Miles (Dacula, Ga.) 15 strikeouts in game two of the series. The six-inning victory was her second one-hitter of the year.
Kayla Brooks (Jonesboro, Ga.) staged her debut against the Spartans with a 6-for-8 performance at the plate that included scoring two runs. Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) posted two of her four career triples against UNCG, and is a .370 career hitter against Greensboro. Senior Brianna Streetmon (Winder, Ga.) has a 0.78 ERA in 45.0 career innings against UNCG.
UNCG closed the regular season with three-straight losses to Elon last weekend. Alex Emeterio leads the Spartan offense with a .350 average, but was held hitless (0-for-8) in the regular seasons series. Heather Robb was the leading hitter in the series with a 3-for-8 weekend that included a double. UNCG's ace pitcher, Cory Matson, faced the Eagles twice in the regular season and surrendered 10 runs off 12 hits.

Tickets are available for purchase at the left field entrance to Eagle Field. All-session adult passes are $30, while all-session youth passes (pre-kindergarten) cost $15. Single session passes cost only $5 for adults and $3 for youths. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $2 each. Only cash and checks made payable to "Southern Conference" will be taken at the gate. Students enrolled at Southern Conference institutions get in free with a valid I.D.
