Softball Closes Regular Season at Chattanooga

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Softball (28-24, 16-5 SoCon) wraps-up the regular season with a three-game Southern Conference series at league-leader Chattanooga (32-12, 14-3 SoCon). The Eagles have won six-straight SoCon games with sweeps over Furman and UNCG. Sophomore Kayla Brooks (Jonesboro, Ga.) is swinging the hot bat for the Eagles, posting a .440 average (11-for-25) in the last 10 games. She is on a five-game hit streak and went 3-for-3 in her last game against UNCG (April 23rd).
Allie Miles (Dacula, Ga.) picked up her second-consecutive SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday (April 25th) after her dominating performance against UNCG. She struck out a career-high 15 batters in the Eagles' 8-0 six-inning victory over the Spartans on Friday, April 22nd. She pitched her second one-hitter of the season in the win and added another victory on Saturday, April 23rdfor her 14th win of the year. Over the last 24.2 innings of work, Miles has not allowed an earned run.
Junior Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) paces the Georgia Southern offense with a .359 batting average. She belted 13 home runs this season to share the SoCon lead with Chattanooga's Tiffany Baker. The Eagle leadoff batter is hitting .482 to leadoff an inning. Junior Hanna Ennis (Snellville, Ga.) ranks second in the SoCon with 12 doubles and carries a .322 batting average for the year. The Eagles are 11-6 in the 17 games since Ennis made the move from second base to shortstop.
In Brianna Streetmon's (Winder, Ga.) last six SoCon starts, the senior left-handed pitcher has not allowed more than two runs to score. This recent run of play cut her ERA from 4.09 to 3.23. With 11 wins this season, Streetmon needs five more to tie the school record of 54 career wins.
The 2011 Eagles set a school record with 16 conference wins this season, surpassing the 2002 mark of 15. Head Coach Maggie Johnson eclipsed her previous career-best of 14 league wins with a victory in game one against UNCG.
In the all-time series, Georgia Southern trails the Mocs, 50-19, but won the last meting. The Eagles ousted top-seeded Chattanooga from the 2010 Southern Conference Softball Championships with a 3-0 win. Megen Smith (Springfield, Ga.) got the job done in the circle and at the plate. She earned the victory, allowing four hits over for and a third innings and belted her 18th and final home run of the season with a two-run job in the third inning.
Chattanooga, winners of their last three games, took a road sweep over Furman last weekend. Vivian Morimoto, one of eight Mocs with a batting average over .300, leads the Mocs with a .393 average. Michelle Fuzzard is 15-6 in the circle while Kandice Irwin has a 1.64 ERA and six saves.
