Eagles Sweep Softball Weekly Awards

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Softball earned its second sweep of the week when it swept the Southern Conference weekly softball awards on Monday (April 18th). Mackenzie Williams (Baxley, Ga.) was named Player of the Week for the first time in her career while Allie Miles (Dacula, Ga.) picked up her second Pitcher of the Week honor this season..
Williams hit .600 over the weekend in Georgia Southern's three-game sweep of Furman. The Eagle catcher was 6-for-10 at the plate with five hits in Saturday's (April 16th) doubleheader sweep over the Paladins. In the series opener, Williams hit her eighth home run of the season to move into a tie for sixth place in the conference in that category.
Miles pitched twice against Furman and posted a perfect 0.00 ERA while allowing just five hits. She struck out 14 batters in 12.0 innings of work and now has 130 strikeouts to lead the SoCon. Miles is 12-7 on the year following a complete game shutout win in Saturday's finale. She also won Sunday's (April 18th) game with four innings of shutout ball in relief. Miles has not allowed an earned run in her last 15.0 innings of work.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday, April 20th, for a single game against No. 3 Georgia. The game begins at 6:30 p.m. from UGA's Jack Turner Stadium.
