SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Georgia Southern's Marie Fogle has been selected as the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week for games played March 14-20. The selection, made by the league office, is Fogle's second of the season.
Fogle, a junior from Rincon, Ga., helped the Eagles to a 3-2 record on the week, including a three-game conference sweep of Western Carolina. In that series, Fogle hit .636 with four home runs to increase her season total to 10. Against the Catamounts, the Eagle centerfielder knocked in nine runs and scored six.
In both games of Saturday's (March 19th) doubleheader, Fogle opened the game with a leadoff home run, her fourth and fifth leadoff home runs of the season. In the series finale, Fogle went long twice, including a third-inning grand slam that broke the game open. It was Fogle's first multi-home run game of her career.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader against North Florida. The first game against the Ospreys starts at 4 p.m.
