Softball Travels for Three-Game Set Against Western Carolina

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern continues a 10-game road swing this weekend with a trio of Southern Conference games against Western Carolina. The series starts on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader and concludes with a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. Georgia Southern has won five-straight over Western Carolina and leads the all-time series, 10-8. The Eagles won all three games in Statesboro in 2010.
The Eagles (10-17, 2-1 SoCon) are led by Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) with a .361 batting average and a league-leading six home runs and 56 total bases. She is slugging at a .675 clip and has stolen five bases this season. Fogle is hitting .500 (21-for-42) to leadoff an inning with four home runs. Freshman Shelby Morrill (Madison, Ga.) has the hot bat for the Eagles with a team-best .385 batting average over the last 10 games. Junior Mackenzie Williams (Baxley, Ga.) is hitting .600 on the road against Western Carolina while senior Megen Smith (Springfield, Ga.) has a .429 average in Cullowhee.
Two-time defending SoCon Pitcher of the Year Brianna Streetmon (Winder, Ga.) has worked 62.2 innings and has struck out 50 batters while holding the opposition to a .252 batting average. She has five wins on the year to lead the staff. Freshman Allie Miles (Dacula, Ga.) has had a strong start to her career with 59 strikeouts to rank second in the Southern Conference and four wins.
Western Carolina (13-12, 0-3 SoCon) enters the weekend series with a 1-3 mark at home, dropping two against Lipscomb and one to UNC Wilmington. Kelly Braman paces the Catamounts with a .375 batting average and three home runs. The WCU pitching staff is anchored by Amber Steinhardt's 7-4 record and 2.02 ERA.
Georgia Southern meets North Florida in a non-conference doubleheader next Wednesday, March 23rd, in Jacksonville, Fla. before closing the trip with a weekend SoCon series against College of Charleston on March 26th and 27th.
