Softball Travels to War Eagle Classic at Auburn

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Softball continues a 16-game road trip this weekend at the War Eagle Classic at Auburn's Jane B. Moore Field. The Eagles face Marshall (11 a.m.) and Auburn (1:30 p.m.) on Friday before moving to the night-bracket for Saturday's games against Belmont (6:30 p.m.) and Middle Tennessee St. (9 p.m.). The weekend closes on Sunday afternoon with a 12:30 p.m. game against Murray State.
The one familiar foe, Middle Tennessee St., squared off against the Eagles at Florida State's Garnet and Gold Classic last weekend in Tallahassee. The Eagles blanked the Blue Raiders in game one, 2-0, but Middle Tennessee took a hard-fought 9-7 win in 12 innings Sunday morning.
Georgia Southern is 4-7 on the year after going 1-4 last weekend in Tallahassee, Fla. Sophomore Andrea Tarashuk (Flemington, N.J.) paces the Eagle batters with a .300 average while Megen Smith (Springfield, Ga.) has knocked in seven RBI and three home runs. Leadoff hitter Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) also has smacked three home runs with five RBI. Junior transfer Jorie Walker (Dublin, Ga.) has a .296 batting average with a 2-for-3 record on the basepaths.
In the pitching circle, Brianna Streetmon (Winder, Ga.) holds opponents to a .210 batting average, third-best in the SoCon with a 3-2 overall record. Freshman Allie Miles (Dacula, Ga.) has fanned 25 batters to lead the team in strikeouts. She is tied for fourth in the SoCon in the category. Miles has stifled opposing batters, holding them to a .252 batting average.
Next weekend, Georgia Southern visits No. 8 Tennessee to play in the Tennessee Classic. The Eagles will face the Lady Vols twice and play once against Louisiana-Monroe. The trip concludes with an exhibition game against the Dutch National Team.
