Eagles Close Road Swing Against Davidson

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Basketball closes out a three-game road swing on Wednesday (Feb 16th) night at 7 p.m. against Davidson (13-13, 7-8 SoCon). The Eagles (4-23, 0-14 SoCon) took the Wildcats to the brink in the first meeting of the season just 17 days ago, falling 73-66.

Junior Ben Drayton III (St. Marys, Ga.) took control of the Wofford game and scored a career-high 31 points as the Eagles erased a 19-point second-half deficit. Freshman of the Year Candidate Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.), scored 16 points against the Terriers and leads all SoCon freshmen with 12.5 points per game. Senior Rory Spencer (Atlanta, Ga.) has 9.8 points per contest. Spencer and Ferguson are tied for the team lead in rebounds with 5.6 rebounds per game.
The Eagles trail in the all-time series 25-6 and have dropped the last nine games to the Wildcats. GSU's last victory at Belk Arena came on Feb. 22, 2000 as Georgia Southern took the 88-87 win. Davidson shot .532 from the field and .467 from downtown in the earlier meeting this season on Jan. 31. The Wildcats took the victory, 73-66, as Drayton and Jelani Hewitt (Oakland Park, Fla.) scored 14 points to lead the Eagles. JP Kuhlman scored 20 in the game to lead Davidson in scoring.
With his two-game suspension for violation of team protocol complete, freshman guard Tré Bussey (Lithia Springs, Ga.) will return to the Eagle lineup against the Wildcats.
Head coach Charlton "C.Y." Young leads the Eagles in his second year in charge of his alma mater's program. Young led Georgia Southern to its last NCAA Tournament appearance and his 1,517-career point total ranks 11th on the all-time Georgia Southern scoring list.
Davidson head coach Bob McKillop is in his 22nd year at the helm of the Wildcat team with a 396-261 career record. The Wildcats are led in scoring by JP Kuhlman's 12.8 points per game. Jake Cohen has 11.8 points per game with 6.4 rebounds per game to lead the team on the boards.
The Eagles will close out the 2011 regular season with three-straight home games against The Citadel (Feb. 19th), UNC Greensboro (Feb. 24th) and Elon (Feb. 26th). The 2011 Southern Conference Tournament opens on Friday, March 4th in Chattanooga, Tenn.
On Saturday (Feb. 19th), The Southern Explosion Dance Team will host its annual dance camp starting at 10 a.m. at the GSU Recreation Activity Center. The camp is for ages 6-18 and will include a performance during the Men's Basketball game against The Citadel. The cost is $30 per student and includes lunch and a T-shirt for the performance. The first 50 fans for Saturday's game will receive a Chick-fil-A cow, coupons and sandwiches. At halftime, a performance by the Moore Elementary School Jump Rope Team of Dublin, Ga., will entertain the crowd.
