STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Basketball continues a three-game road swing on Saturday night with a 7 p.m. contest against Wofford (13-12, 10-4 SoCon). The Eagles (4-22, 0-13 SoCon) have earned respect within the league, going toe-to-toe with five of the best teams in the league over the last few weeks. The Eagles took Chattanooga to the brink a week ago and fought Samford to the final seconds last Saturday.
"Voice of the Eagles" Chris Blair and the Georgia Southern Radio Network will have live coverage from Benjamin Johnson Arena on 102.9 FM and GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com/Eaglevision starting at 6:30 p.m.
Georgia Southern has three players scoring in double figures, paced by junior Ben Drayton III (St. Marys, Ga.) and his 15.5 points per game. Freshman of the Year Candidate Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.), who leads all SoCon freshmen in scoring with 12.4 points per game, checks in with 12.4 points per game and Rory Spencer (Atlanta, Ga.) has 10.0 points per contest. Spencer's 5.7 rebounds per game is best on the team with Ferguson right behind him at 5.6.
Georgia Southern leads the all-time series, 21-17, but the Terriers have taken the last four games. The Terriers shot 58.5 percent from the field in the first meeting between the two teams on January 12th as they won in Statesboro 74-65. Wofford lost its most recent game to Davidson, 67-58, on Wednesday night. Noah Dahlman leads the Terriers with 20.4 points per game while Tim Johnson has 8.6 rebounds per game.
GSU's rotation will be reduced by one as freshman guard Tré Bussey (Lithia Springs, Ga.) completes his two-game suspension for a violation of team protocol. Sophomore Zuri James (Stone Mountain, Ga.) replaced Bussey against Furman and scored a team-best 16 points.
Head coach Charlton "C.Y." Young leads the Eagles in his second year in charge of his alma mater's program. Young led Georgia Southern to its last NCAA Tournament appearance and his 1,517-career point total ranks 11th on the all-time Georgia Southern scoring list.
The Terriers are led by head coach Mike Young in his ninth year at Wofford. The 1986 graduate of Emory and Henry College owns a 129-138 all-time record. He took Wofford, the 2010 SoCon tournament champion, to the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
GSU closes the regular season's final road swing on Wednesday night against Davidson (Feb. 16th). The Eagles return home for three-straight home games to close the regular schedule starting on Feb. 19th against The Citadel.
