Eagles Close Road Swing Against Auburn

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Basketball returns from the holiday break for a game against the Auburn Tigers on Friday night, December 30th. The Eagles' trip to the plains of Alabama can be seen on CSS and ESPN3.com with the radio call on the Georgia Southern Radio Network at 7 p.m. (ET).
Georgia Southern (3-7) looks for its first win over a power conference foe since a win over South Carolina in 1992 when the Eagles won, 82-69. Last season, Georgia Southern took the Tigers to overtime and fell 88-84 in the extra frame.
Sophomore Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) leads the team with 14.4 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per contest. Ferguson is also the Eagles' top shot blocker with 10 blocks in the season's first 10 games. Senior Ben Drayton III (St. Marys, Ga.) has 11.9 points per game and leads the team with 15 steals.
Senior Willie Powers III (Gainesville, Fla.) has 50 assists at a 5.0 assist per game clip. He also has 11.1 points per game and ranks 31st all-time at Georgia Southern in career scoring. Powers has 1,109 career points, just 12 shy of matching Michael Curry's 30th place mark of 1,121 career points.
The Tigers (8-3) are on the heels of consecutive losses to Long Beach State and UTEP in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. Frankie Sullivan has 13.7 points per game to lead the team while Kenny Gabriel has 8.1 rebounds per game. Gabriel also leads the team with 27 blocked shots per game.
The Eagles return to Statesboro for its final non-conference game of the regular season on Monday evening, January 2nd, against Brewton-Parker at 7:30 p.m. The game is the final part of a basketball doubleheader to open 2012.
