Men's Basketball Faces Paine College in Final Tune-Up

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Basketball returns to the hardwood for the final time before the start of the regular season in just one week with an exhibition game against Paine College on Friday night, November 4th, at 7 p.m. The exhibition game is free and open to the public. Eagle Vision will provide live video of the game with Justin Baker calling the action for free.
Georgia Southern downed Voorhees, 97-66 in the season's first preseason game. Four Eagles reached double-figures with Ben Drayton III (St. Marys, Ga.) leading all scorers with 21 points. He narrowly missed a double-double with nine steals in the contest. Sophomore Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) had 19 points, while Tré Bussey (Lithia Springs, Ga.) added 18 points.
Senior Willie Powers (Gainesville, Fla.) continues his return from injury which forced him to miss the 2010-11 season. He has averaged 13.3 points per game over his career and needs two more points to become the 38th member of the 1,000 point club at Georgia Southern.
Georgia Southern's maturation has continued with the Eagles committing just eight turnovers in the first preseason game, down from 17.9 turnovers per game last year.
The Eagles open the regular season in just one week against Valparaiso. The 2011 season opener is part of a basketball doubleheader at Hanner Fieldhouse which begins at 5:00 p.m. with the GSU Women's Basketball team playing host to Arizona. The men's game begins at 7:30 p.m.
