Georgia Southern Faces Wake Forest on FS-South

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern takes to the road for the first time this season on Wednesday night, heading to Winston-Salem, N.C. for a Tobacco Road showdown with Wake Forest. The game can be seen live on the ACC Network, syndicated across the state of Georgia on FS-South. Fans in other parts of the country are asked to check their local listings for exact channel. The game starts at 7 p.m.
Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) opened his second season at Georgia Southern with his third career double-double. He scored 20 points to go with a career-high 13 rebounds in the loss to Valpo.
Senior Willie Powers III (Gainesville, Fla.) became the 38th member of the 1,000 point club at Georgia Southern with 13 points against Valparaiso. He now ranks 36th in all-time scoring at GSU with 1,011 career points. He also logged a career-high five steals against the Crusaders.
The Eagles face Wake Forest for the first time since 1985 and look for their first win over the Demon Deacons in two previous chances. Jeff Sanders scored 20 points to lead the Eagles while Mike Scott added 14 for the Deacs to take a 64-61 win. Future NBA star Tyrone "Muggsy" Bogues had nine rebounds. He also made eight steals, the most steals recorded in program history.
C.J. Harris scored 20 points while Travis McKie added 19 to take the Deacs to a 75-63 win over Loyola (Md.) to open the 2011-12 season. Carson Desrosiers had 10 of Wake Forest's 39 rebounds as the hosts were out-rebounded 45-39. Loyola took a 19-12 margin on the offensive glass while the Deacs made 17 turnovers in the game. Wake shot 49.0% from the field and 38.5% from downtown while holding Loyola to a 34.9% night from the field and 7.1% from beyond the arc.
Georgia Southern looks for its first win over a power conference foe since a win over South Carolina in 1992 when the Eagles won, 82-69. GSU is 7-34 all-time against current ACC opponents, scoring their last win over Georgia Tech in 1958, 72-64.
Georgia Southern returns home on Friday night for a game against Webber International. The Eagles' third all-time game against the Warriors starts at 7 p.m. on Friday night, November 18th.
