Statesboro, Ga. - For junior first baseman Tabby Douberley, Georgia Southern has always felt like home. Her sister was a student when she first arrived here and two high school teammates (Megen Smith and Marie Fogle) were already playing for the Blue and White.
"There's been many times on the field when I felt like I was still in high school," said the Effingham County native. "I've played with them for so long, it was like being stuck in a time warp-even the colors of our uniforms are the same!"
Douberley credits all of her teammates for helping her adjust to life as a Division I student-athlete.
"My teammates are amazing," said Douberley. "Everyone is always in a good mood and laughing. We encourage each other and pick each other up like teammates should. The coaching staff is the same way. Whether it's on the field or in the classroom, they encourage you to do your best in whatever it is you're doing."
First year Head Coach Annie Smith is glad to have Douberley's experience at first base.
"Tabby works really hard on the field and always gives her best effort every day," said Smith. "We need our first baseman to be a vocal leader out there and she's done a really nice job helping our younger infielders on the team."
Douberley started 36 games last season and has been working hard to improve her swing. During this year's fall campaign, Douberley batted .412 as the Eagles went undefeated (8-0).
Major: Pre-Veterinary Studies
Interests: Hanging out with friends, dancing, and trying new things.

Athlete: Jessica Mendoza.
Why did you choose to attend GSU? It's close to home and Georgia Southern carries my desired major. I was also really drawn to the softball program and enjoyed being around the girls.
What do you appreciate most about your team? The close relationship we have that allows me to be myself around them and knowing that no matter what they will always be there for me and vice versa.
What are your goals for the upcoming season: To play to the best of my ability for my team and to win the Southern Conference Championship.
What accomplishments are you most proud of? I am most proud to have the opportunity to come to Georgia Southern and work on my degree, while playing the sport I love.
What are your plans after college? To get my veterinarian license.
