STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern's senior point guard Willie Powers III was hailed by the Southern Conference Coaches as the preseason all-conference team was announced on Wednesday, October 26th. The announcement came one day prior to the Eagles' first preseason game against Voorhees.
Powers, a native of Gainesville, Fla., missed the 2010-11 season due to injury and returns for his senior season in Eagle Blue. He has averaged 13.3 points per game and needs two points to become the 38th member of the 1,000 point club at Georgia Southern.
The league also announced the preseason poll with the Eagles picked third in the South Division behind Davidson and College of Charleston. The Eagles were picked ahead of Furman, Wofford and The Citadel in the straw poll of the league's 12 head coaches. Georgia Southern's first league-play opponent, Chattanooga, was picked first in the North Division ahead of Appalachian State, Western Carolina and UNCG.
