Eagles Play Appalachian State on Senior Day

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Soccer looks to return to winning form in the 2011 home finale against Appalachian State on Friday, October 14th, at 4 p.m. The Eagles dropped a non-conference match at NC State in the midweek, but remain atop of the Southern Conference with three wins in league play.
The contest is a pivotal moment in the conference season with Appalachian State occupying second place in the league standings with six points and a 2-0 record. The Eagles have nine points and a 3-1 conference mark with an eye on the program's first regular season SoCon Championship.
Senior forward Luigi Clendening (Augusta, Ga.) has had a dream season with 11 goals to rank sixth in the nation. He occupies fifth place in total points with 26 points this season. His work in attack has propelled the Eagles to third in the nation with 29 goals and a sixth-ranked scoring offense of 2.42 goals per match.
Not to be outdone, Witt Carlisle (Alpharetta, Ga.) ranks 36th in the nation in goals scored with six and Drew Ruggles (Manassas, Va.) has four assists to rank 66th among NCAA Division I players. In goal, Ryan Platt (Preston, England) ranks 19th nationally in total saves entering the week.
The Mountaineers have had a trying season with the death of their head coach, Shaun Pendleton during the early weeks of the season. Appalachian State is unbeaten in their last eight matches, including a 1-0 win over the defending league Champion UNCG last weekend. Sean Dreybus leads the Apps with six goals this season.
Georgia Southern travels for the final two regular season matches against Elon and UNC Greensboro. The Eagles face the Phoenix on Friday, October 21st, at 7 p.m. and the Spartans on Tuesday, October 25th, at 7 p.m.
