STATESBORO, Ga. - The Southern Conference leader, Georgia Southern, travels to NC State for a non-conference match on Tuesday evening, October 11th, at Dail Soccer Stadium. The Eagles, one of the nation's top scoring offenses with 2.42 goals per match takes on a Wolfpack defense which has allowed 1.17 goals per match with four shutouts.
Senior Luigi Clendening (Augusta, Ga.) has 11 goals this season and ranks in the top-five nationally. The SoCon Player of the Year candidate scored twice in the Eagles' most recent match, a 4-2 victory over Wofford. Clendening is four goals shy of matching the Georgia Southern single-season goal scoring record.
With a 7-4-1 overall record this season and a 3-1-0 mark in league play, Georgia Southern holds first place in the Southern Conference. With nine points from four matches, the Eagles lead Appalachian State by three points.
The Eagles look to snap a four-match skid against the Wolfpack and win the first match in Raleigh since 2002. Last year, GSU scored a pair of early goals by Drew Ruggles (Manassas, Va.) and Ethan LaPan (Martinez, Ga.). The defense, however, surrendered goals in the 68th, 81st, and 84th minutes to snatch the victory from the Eagles.
NC State is 4-6-2 overall and 1-3-0 in the ACC. The Wolfpack has dropped their last two matches, a 4-2 defeat at Duke and a 1-0 overtime loss at Campbell. NC State's top striker is Nazmi Albadawi with four goals and three assists.
Georgia Southern takes on the Wolfpack starting at 7 p.m. Following Tuesday's match, Georgia Southern returns home for Senior Day against Appalachian State on Friday, October 14, at 4 p.m. from Eagle Field.
