Georgia Southern Plays Host to SoCon Leader College of Charleston

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Basketball returns home on Wednesday night to play host to College of Charleston at Hanner Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. The Cougars sit at the top of the SoCon South and are winners of two straight. Georgia Southern is in search of its first conference win and an end to a seven-game losing streak to the College of Charleston. The Georgia Southern Radio Network will have live coverage on 102.9 FM and GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com/Eaglevision starting at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday's game is Military Appreciation Day. All active and retired or discharged servicemen and women will be admitted to the game for free by presenting a valid military ID at the door.
The Eagles (4-17, 0-7 SoCon) are led by Ben Drayton III (St. Mary's, Ga.) with 15.2 points per game. The junior has reached double-figures in 20 of GSU's 21 games this year. Freshman Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) is working on one of the best freshman years in school history with 14.0 points per game. He had a great game against UNC Greensboro, posting 24 points in the loss at the Greensboro Coliseum. Senior Rory Spencer (Atlanta, Ga.) is also scoring in double-figures with 11.0 points per game to go with 24 blocks. Spencer is also GSU's top rebounder with 6.1 boards per game.
Wednesday's game is the 43rd all-time meeting between College of Charleston and Georgia Southern. The Eagles trail 25-17 in the series and fell earlier this year, 92-84 in Charleston.
The Cougars (14-6, 7-1 SoCon) are paced by the SoCon's leading scorer, senior Andrew Goudelock with 23.4 points per game. Senior Jeremy Simmons has 13.8 points per game while senior Donavan Monroe has posted 11.6 points per game.
Head coach Charlton "C.Y." Young leads the Eagles in his second year in charge of his alma mater's program. Young led Georgia Southern to its last NCAA Tournament appearance and ranks as one of the leading scorers all-time for the Eagles.
Bobby Cremins is in his fifth season with the Cougars and holds a 101-55 record in Charleston. Overall, the future Hall-of-Fame coach owns 555 career wins to 362 total losses.
Davidson visits Hanner Fieldhouse on Monday, January 31 before the Eagles visit Chattanooga to open the new month on February 3.
