Eagles Split the Gardner-Webb Double-Duals

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team (7-3) split its double-dual meet Saturday, January 15th. The Eagles defeated Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) foe Limestone (166-37), but fell to Gardner-Webb (116-88), who played host to the 22-event meet at the Gardner-Webb Aquatics Center. The meet also featured men's swimming action as Gardner-Webb defeated Limestone (161.50-43.50).
"We are exactly where we should be at this point," stated Head Coach Nathan Kellogg. "We just got outraced a little bit at the beginning, but I thought our team was solid throughout the meet. We got better as the meet went on and gained a lot of positives."
The Eagles finished in first or second place 10 separate times over the course of the day. Senior Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.) paced Georgia Southern with two individual first-place finishes. Teammates Devan White (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Ali Campbell (Ft. McMurray, Alberta, Canada) placed second in two events.
All three swimmers helped Georgia Southern finish in first and/or second place in every freestyle event. Bevillard took first-place honors in the 100 freestyle (55.13) and in the 200 free (1:56.81). White followed Bevillard's lead, finishing second in the 100 free (55.42) and taking the same honors in the 50 free with a time of 25.31. Campbell swam to second-place finishes in the 500 free (5:11.67) and in the 1000 free (10:39.78).
Bevillard, White and Campbell, along with Laurie Stephens (Atlanta, Ga.), lifted the Georgia Southern "A" team to a first-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:38.02). Bevillard swam the first leg, followed by Campbell, White and Stephens. Senior Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.) was the other lone Eagle to finish in first place on the day as she tapped the wall for a first-place time of 2:09.48 in the 200 backstroke.
Courtney Harrison (Greenville, S.C) and Lindsay Mullican (Lancaster, Pa.) posted second-place times. Harrison finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.95) while Mullican recorded a second-place finish in the 400 I.M. (4:42.19).
Georgia Southern will continue its four-week tour of the CCSA on January 22nd when the Eagles travel to Davidson, N.C., to race against six other CCSA teams. Georgia Southern will compete against Davidson, North Carolina A & T, Radford, Howard, Liberty and Campbell.
The Eagles have already competed against four of the six teams in the meet, defeating Campbell, North Carolina A & T, Radford and Liberty earlier this season.
