STATESBORO, Ga - Fifteen returners and nine newcomers will open the 2010-2011 Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving season October 15th as the Eagles begin competition with a conference double-dual meet at Campbell University. Head coach Nate Kellogg announced the season schedule Tuesday (September 28).
"We have some really tough meets planned this year that will show who we are as a team," said Head Coach Nathan Kellogg. "This schedule will show where our strengths and weaknesses are. We hope to get better from the first meet to the last, that's our goal."
Facing Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) foes Campbell and North Carolina A&T for the 5 p.m. double-dual meet, the season opener prepares the Eagles for an out-of-conference dual meet against Richmond at the Robins Center Natatorium the next day, Saturday, October 16th, at 1 p.m.
The Eagles' only home meet of the fall is set for Saturday, October 23rd at the Recreation Activity Center (RAC) on the Georgia Southern campus. CCSA member College of Charleston and Savannah College of Art & Design, the 2010 NAIA women's champions, will contest events in the double-dual meet that begins at 12 p.m.
A three-day event, the Highlander Invitational at Radford closes out the fall portion of Georgia Southern's schedule. The seven-team field will compete in events all day Thursday-Saturday, November 18-20th at the Dedmond Center. The start of the new year places the Eagles in Fort Myers, Fla., for a CCSA quad meet on Saturday, January 8th, the first of four straight weekends of meets. Florida Gulf Coast University, Liberty, Radford and Georgia Southern will begin racing at 11 a.m. at the FGCU Aquatics Center.
Gardner-Webb plays host to the Eagles and Limestone College for a Saturday, January 15th double-dual meet at 1 p.m. The following week, Georgia Southern returns to North Carolina for a preview of the CCSA championships as six league teams will compete at Davidson on Saturday, January 22nd for the Dualapalooza. The Eagles will face Davidson and Howard as well as previous opponents Campbell, Liberty, North Carolina A&T and Radford.
Georgia Southern and CCSA member North Florida will face off in the final dual meet and final home meet of the season Saturday, January 29th. The Eagles will have nearly three weeks to prepare for the CCSA Championships to be held Thursday-Saturday, February 17-19th. Gabrielsen Natatorium at the University of Georgia, site of the 2009 event, will serve as the venue for the 2011 championships.
