All-American Joins 2010 Golf Roster

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern golf program has added Lewis Gruber to the fall 2010 roster as announced recently by the coaching staff. Gruber, a First Team NJCAA All-American team selection for 2009-2010 and Second Team NJCAA All-American for 2008-09, collected six individual wins during his two-year junior college career.

"We are excited about adding such an experienced player to our roster next season,” said head coach
Larry Mays. “We look for Lewis to come in and contribute right away to our continued success."

Gruber, a native of Tallahassee, Fla., will transfer from Central Alabama Community College where he most recently won the NJCAA Region XXII & District IV Championship with a three-round total of 8-under par 205 with rounds of 67-70-68. Gruber and his team then advanced to the NJCAA National Championship in Huntsville, Ala., where he finished tied for 27th-place with a 6-over 222. As a team, the Trojans took eighth place with an aggregated 894 (+30) at the tournament.

To cap his final year at CACC, Gruber was a NJCAA All-American First Team selection, the second All-American honor received by the incoming junior. In addition, Gruber was a PING NJCAA All-Region selection for the second consecutive year.

Gruber was a three-time MVP of his high school, McLay, where he finished sixth in the state championship his junior season.

Gruber joins Hayden Anderson (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut), Will Evans (McDonugh, Ga./Eagles Landing Christian Academy) and Drew Guffey (Bartow, Fla./Bartow) as the 2010 incoming class. To read the release, please click here.
