STATESBORO, GA - Regarded as one of the top collegiate golf practice facilities in the nation, the Bennett-Ramsey Golf Center is the home to the Georgia Southern Golf team. Initial construction of the facility began in 2005 and since its opening has been paramount to the recruiting process and success of the Eagle golf program. With the final construction phase now completed, the Georgia Southern Athletic Foundation will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, March 17 at 10 a.m.
President of the Georgia Southern Athletic Foundation, John Mulherin, will give opening remarks followed by Dr. Ronald Core and head golf coach Larry Mays. All three founders, Christian Bennett, Arthur Howard and Holmes Ramsey, will be recognized during the ceremony. Following the conclusion of the ribbon cutting, attendees will enjoy a trick shot exhibition, tour of the facility and refreshments.
The 25-acre facility houses the team clubhouse, a dedicated practice putting green, a three-green short-game area, a two-tiered practice tee, a driving range and three practice holes. Located on the property is the 7,700 square foot Howard House which encompasses the coaches' offices, team locker room, conference room, kitchen, team lounge, indoor putting lab, club repair area, study lounge and a 'Hall of Fame' entryway.
Designed to utilize the 25-acres in multiple ways, three practice holes are situated behind the Howard House with distinct target areas on each green, allowing for up to three different pin locations, making the facility a nine-hole course. The three holes dimensions are as follows: hole one, a 390-yard, par 4; hole two, a 185-yard, par 3; and hole 3, a 330-yard, par 4. Each hole can play off multiple tee boxes, allowing for many different yardages to be played.
“The Bennett-Ramsey Golf Center and the Howard House have surpassed all of the dreams that I had for a practice facility here at Georgia Southern,” said Eagle head coach Larry Mays. “We are so fortunate to have such great support from our donors, the community and our athletic administration in constructing such a beautiful facility. We've been able to recruit a higher caliber player and develop our program more quickly as a result of the facility and all effort that went into its development.”
The ribbon cutting ceremony is open to the public.
