KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Georgia Southern completed day one of the 2010 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships with 118 points for fifth place among the 12 schools competing at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center at the University of Tennessee. Day one featured six events for the women with the championship meet continuing through Saturday, February 20.
Three University records fell on the first day with the 200-yard freestyle relay setting the pace with a University record and a season best time. The team of senior Courtney Martz (Woodbine, Ga.), junior Ali Campbell (Ft. McMurray, Alberta), Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.) and senior Jordyn Pasley (Knoxville, Tenn.) posted the best time of the 2009-10 season with a time of 1:35.22 for fourth place. Martz kicked off the relay with a split of 22.98 to set a University record in the 50-yard freestyle. Martz would capture third place in the 50-yard freestyle championships later in the day with a time of 23.02.
Senior Lauren Parr (Canton, Ohio) etched her name in the Georgia Southern record book with a 2:05.63 time in the 200-yard Individual Medley, bettering the University record she set at last year's CCSA championships. The 400-yard Medley Relay team of junior Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.), senior Ashley White (Charlotte, N.C.), Parr and Martz narrowly missed breaking the University record in the event in the preliminaries with a time of 3:57.88, but came back in the finals with a GSU best time of 3:53.27.
Campbell improved her time and place from the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries Thursday morning to the finals, moving to a fifth-place finish with a time of 5:01.35. Campbell took almost three seconds off her time from the preliminary race to the final event and bested her own 2009-10 season-best time by more than eight seasons.
Bevillard posted her best performance of the year in the preliminaries of the 200-yard I.M. with a time of 2:09.45 and finished 16th with a time of 2:10.59 in the finals. Pasley finished 13th in the 500-yard freestyle race. In the one-meter diving event, freshman Alden Lynch (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished eighth with a total of 185.55 points.
