CINCINNATI - Cincinnati shot 59.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from the perimeter in the second half to help build on its halftime lead for a 99-54 win over Georgia Southern Tuesday night at Fifth Third arena. The Bearcats had four players score 12 points each while Darnell Wilks grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) and Rory Spencer (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Eagles with a game-high 16 points. Spencer was the leading rebounder in the game with nine.
"Obviously we were out-manned tonight," said Eagles Head Coach Charlton "C.Y." Young. "They have a lot more depth and length and it showed tonight. We have young guys who are still learning to respond to tough situations in games. I told our guys that when we face adversity you can't duck from it and run. The only way for us to come out of this is to step on the court, our home court, in front of our home fans and the people who love and support us, and earn our way back."
Cincinnati bolted out to a 20-10 lead early in the game and would hold the Eagles to 13 points for the remainder half to take a 50-23 advantage into halftime. Ferguson scored 13 of his 16 points in Georgia Southern's effort to cut the lead in the second half, but big runs by the Bearcats would allow Cincinnati to maintain its double-digit lead.
