BOONE, N.C. - The Georgia Southern Men's Soccer team lost a second straight game by just one goal, falling 1-0 at Appalachian State Saturday (October 2).
The Eagles defense held the Mountaineers (4-3-2, 1-0-0 Southern Conference) scoreless throughout the first half, but Georgia Southern (3-4-1, 0-2-0 SoCon) had two shots saved by goalkeeper Collin Taylor.
Appalachian nearly doubled its first half shot total in the second half, taking seven in the period, and the increased offensive pressure paid off for the home team as Steven Sassano put one past Georgia Southern goalkeeper Neal Bates (Watkinsville, Ga.) in the 65th minute for the only score of the game.
Bates, making his second start of the season, recorded two saves, but wasn't able to keep the clean sheet. Each team put just three shots on goal in the contest, but it was the Mountaineers who came out on top.
Georgia Southern will wrap up the road trip in non-conference action against North Carolina State on Tuesday, Oct. 5. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C.
