UNCG Builds on Halftime Lead for Men's Soccer Win

STATESBORO, Ga. -  UNCG took a 2-0 halftime lead and didn't let up in the second half for a 6-1 win over the Georgia Southern Men's Soccer team at Eagle Field Sunday afternoon. The Spartans scattered their goals among six different players while freshman Hunter Norton (Evans, Ga.) scored for the Eagles off an Aleksander Tomic (Sydney, Australia) pass in the 69th minute of play.

"I'm looking for some type of emotion from our players, we had none today and that was really disappointing,"  said Eagles Head Coach Kevin Kennedy. "It was a home conference game and we just didn't play with any enthusiasm or energy when so much is at stake. I hope we can rebound and play with a little bit of passion against Presbyterian."

Ryan Platt (Preston, England) and Bradley Bugg (Athens, Ga.) each played a half in goal for the Eagles with Bugg picking up two saves. Spartan goalie Peyton Ford had the win and allowed only one goal with three saves in nearly 86 minutes of play.

Seven different players for Georgia Southern (3-6-1, 0-3 SoCon) had shots in the game with four shots on target. UNCG (5-5-1, 1-1 SoCon) attacked with 11 shots in the second half for a total of 17, including eight on goal, for the match.

Georgia Southern plays at Presbyterian College Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Blue Hose played three matches last week and return to Martin Stadium after a 2-1 defeat at Coastal Carolina Saturday.
