GSU Travels for Two Conference Contests

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's basketball team heads off to its only two road games of the month of January. The Eagles play two critical conference games -- at Wofford Thursday, January 14 at Benjamin Johnson Arena at 7 p.m. and then they travel down I-85 to play at Furman, Saturday, January 16 at 4 p.m. The Eagles snapped a nine-game winless streak with a 81-76 home victory over Western Carolina last Saturday and now stand at 4-13 overall with a 1-3 mark in the Southern Conference.
Wofford, winner of six of its last seven games, welcomes the Eagles after a 72-55 win at Elon. The 100th career win for Wofford coach Mike Young, it improved the Terriers record to 10-7 overall and evened the record in the Southern Conference at 2-2. Noah Dahlman, who has scored in double digits in all 17 games this season, had 18 points and five rebounds to lead the Terriers vs. the Phoenix.
"Wofford is one of the most disciplined teams in the country and that is because of Mike Young," said Eagles Head Coach Charlton "C.Y." Young. "They have represented the Southern Conference so well outside the conference. We're going to have to find a way to stop Noah Dahlman and that will be a tall task."
Dahlman in third in the Southern Conference in scoring with a 17.7 points per game average and connects on 59.6 percent of his field goals. The 6-6 junior forward also ranks sixth in rebounding at 6.8 boards per game. Junior guard Willie Powers III (Gainesville, Fla.) who scored all 19 of his game-high points in the second half vs. Western Carolina, is seventh in the league in scoring average at 14.5 and senior guard Antonio Hanson (Ft. Worth, Texas), who had the hot shooting hand in the first half vs. WCU, is 16th at 11.7 ppg. Johntavious Rucker (Decatur, Ga.) is the Eagles' top rebounder at 5.4 rebounds per game for 14th in the SoCon.
The Terriers have played nothing but road games since December 21. Wofford posted a win at Georgia in November and defeated South Carolina at Benjamin Johnson Arena., but lost to Appalachian State at home in an early December conference matchup. The Eagles are looking for their first road win of the 2009-2010 season. Following these two road games, GSU has four straight at home the rest of the month.
