Expert Instructors Highlight Charlton Young Coaches Clinic Sept. 19

STATESBORO, Ga. - Class is in session on Saturday, Sept. 19th as distinguished NBA veterans will hold a full-day basketball coaching clinic at Georgia Southern University. Joining Eagle men's basketball head coach Charlton "CY" Young, NBA coaches Michael Curry, Sam Mitchell and NBA player and TV analyst Eric Snow discuss coaching philosophy and motivational tactics, practice pointers and competition preparation.
The inaugural Charlton Young Coaches Clinic begins with registration from 8-9 a.m. and features on-court and lecture settings until 4 p.m. Cost of the clinic is $50 per person.
Held on the GSU campus in Hanner Fieldhouse with sessions led by Curry, Mitchell, Snow and Young, as well as members of the Georgia Southern coaching staff, the clinic will cover key points of the game, Xs and Os and successful strategies for coaches at all levels. Coaches will enjoy insights from expert instructors who earned their basketball education as players and coaches in the professional ranks.
Curry, whose number 20 jersey was retired by Georgia Southern in 2006, served as head coach of the Detroit Pistons and Vice President of Player Development for the NBA. Curry spent more than 13 years playing professional basketball in the NBA and overseas. Mitchell brought an up-tempo style of play to the Toronto Raptors and was named the NBA Coach of the Year for the 2006-07 season after leading the franchise to its first-ever Atlantic Division title. An analyst for NBA TV, Snow played nearly 1,000 career games and was major defensive factor for the Philadelphia 76ers and helped lead them to an eventual appearance in the 2001 NBA Finals.
