STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern softball team (7-8) travels to Jacksonville, Fla. Thursday for an afternoon doubleheader at 4 p.m. with the North Florida Ospreys (6-14).
The Eagles are coming off a split with Jacksonville Tuesday at Eagle Field. Georgia Southern came from behind to defeat the Dolphins 2-1 in game one on Marie Fogle's (Rincon, Ga.) two-run home run. Georgia Southern forced extra innings in game two when Robyne Siliga (Oceanside, Calif.) doubled in the tying run with two-outs in the seventh. Siliga has been a tough third out and is eight for 13 with seven RBIs when batting with two outs this season.
The Eagles' pitching continues to make strides. They prevented the big inning against the Dolphins allowing only five runs in 16 innings. Brianna Streetmon (Winder, Ga.) continues to be solid in the circle and allowed only two hits in a complete game win in game one. Megen Smith (Springfield, Ga.) went the distance in game two going nine innings in her first start of the season.
North Florida played only one game in the rain-shortened Blue and Red Classic, losing 7-3 to Ole Miss Friday. The Ospreys, however, picked up a win when Mississippi Valley State forfeited Friday's second game.
North Florida ranks 10th in the A-Sun with a .209 batting average. Kara Rutenbar leads the team with a .327 average.
Devyn Findley leads the conference in innings pitched and strikeouts. She sports a 2.28 ERA in eight starts this season.
