Men's Basketball Coach Jeff Price Resigns

STATESBORO, Ga. ? Georgia Southern University head men's basketball coach Jeff Price announced his resignation on Monday (March 30), effective immediately.
Price recently finished his 10th year in charge of the Eagles, coming off an 8-22 season. Overall Price posted a record of 165-133 at Georgia Southern, 89-73 in the Southern Conference and 6-10 in the SoCon Tournament. He stands third in career Georgia Southern victories.
“I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to coach at Georgia Southern University. I felt like at this time it was best for all parties involved to move on in my career. I feel like we have done some tremendous things during the past 10 years with the program and I wish them nothing but the best of luck in the future.”
According to Athletics Director Sam Baker, a nation-wide search will begin immediately.
“Jeff and I talked on Monday and I have accepted his resignation. When Jeff took over we were coming off five consecutive losing seasons then under his direction we had seven straight seasons of .500 or better. I want to thank Jeff Price for his contributions to Georgia Southern.” said Baker.
The Eagles advanced to the 2006 NIT Tournament (first post-season appearance since 1992) thanks to winning their third Southern Conference South Division title in 2005-06. Georgia Southern captured its first-ever SoCon championship in 2001-02 and won the second two years later. Price was named SoCon ?Coach of the Year' in 1999-2000 and last year was named the Whack Hyder State of Georgia Men's College ?Coach of the Year'.
Three times during Price's 10-year tenure Georgia Southern won 20-plus games (21-8 in 2003-04, 20-10 in 2005-06 and 20-12 in 2007-08). In all 17 times an Eagle earned All-Southern Conference honors, including 2006 SoCon ?Player of the Year' Elton Nesbitt.
A former assistant coach at Georgia Southern (1982-83; 1986-87), Price returned to the Eagles in 1999 after spending the previous six years at Lynn University (134-44 record). In his 16 years as a head coach between the two institutions, Price had only two losing seasons.
At Lynn Price averaged nearly 23 wins per season. He guided his 1997 team to a 28-3 record and to the Final Four in the program's first year in Division II. That year the team also posted the longest winning streak among any NCAA programs at 20 games. During the inaugural season of basketball, Price led Lynn to a 23-7 record and advancing to the NAIA National Tournament.
