Softball Continues Road Swing at Western Carolina

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern softball team (13-12, 4-2) continues its seven game road trip with a conference series against Western Carolina (5-14, 1-2). The Eagles will put their five game win streak on the line when they face off against WCU Saturday at 1 p.m.
Georgia Southern swept Presbyterian Tuesday in a mid-week series. The Eagles held on to win game one 4-3 and rallied to win game two 9-4 improving their overall record to 13-12 and are the only team in the SoCon with a record above .500.
Michelle Beasley (Metter, Ga.) went four for six with two RBIs against the Blue Hose. She picked up two doubles and a homer in the doubleheader.
The Catamounts opened conference play with an exciting walk-off 3-2 win over UNC Greensboro. Western Carolina used three straight two-out base hits to score the winning run in the ninth inning. The Spartans, however, won the series winning game two 6-4 and game three 11-3.
Georgia Southern is 5-6 all-time against the Catamounts after dropping the rubber game last season. Amanda Hall (Haddock, Ga.) batted .444 with two doubles and two home runs in last year's series. She continues to lead the team this season in RBIs with 21 and multi-RBI games with seven.
Amber Hawkins leads the Catamounts at the plate hitting .357 and has started all 19 games this season. Western Carolina hits .231 as a team compared to the Eagles' SoCon leading average of .290.
Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) is riding a nine game hit streak which started with her first career hit, a two-run homer against Jacksonville. Fogle is hitting at a .379 clip over the month of March.
Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week, Brianna Streetmon (Winder, Ga.) continued her dominate pitching earning two wins and shutting out Presbyterian over the span of two games Tuesday. The sophomore pitcher allowed only two hits in eight innings and struck out 10.
First pitch in Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game is set for 1 p.m.
