Eagles in Rematch at Elon

ELON, N.C. ? In the last regular season road trip this year, the Georgia Southern Men's Basketball team travels to Elon and Davidson this weekend. The trip begins Thursday night (Feb. 26) at Elon, tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
Chris Blair and Frank Kerns will call the game on Eagle 102.9 FM and via the internet at www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com. The broadcast will begin 30 minutes before tipoff.
The Eagles (8-18 overall, 5-12 Southern Conference) are looking to avenge a 57-54 loss to the Phoenix earlier this month inside Hanner Fieldhouse. Ben Drayton III (St. Marys/Camden County) scored a game-high 17 points. Tyler Troupe (Gallatin, TN/Iowa Western CC) recorded a double-double, 14 points and career-high 16 rebounds. The Eagles out-shot and out-rebounded Elon, but committed nine more turnovers.
On Saturday the Eagles defeated Jacksonville State 66-63 as part of the ESPN BracketBusters. Three Georgia Southern players scored in double-figures, led by Antonio Hanson (Fort Worth, TX/Independence CC) with 19 points, as the Eagles snapped an eight-game losing streak.
With three regular season games remaining, the Eagles are looking to stay ahead of Furman for the fifth seed in the South Division. The SoCon Tournament begins a week from Friday in Chattanooga.
Overall, Hanson leads the scoring attack at 12.5 points per game with Drayton close behind at 10.9 ppg.
Drayton continues to lead the SoCon shooting 50.7 percent from 3-point range (36-of-71), tied for 13th in assists (2.5), 13th in free throw percentage (.730) and ranks 24th in scoring.
Troupe moved up to 12th among the rebounding leaders at 6.5 rpg and is tied for 15th in blocked shots (0.6).
Elon (9-17, 6-11) dropped a 75-72 decision last Saturday at UNC Wilmington, also part of the ESPN BracketBusters. Ola Atoyebi scored 18 points off the bench and grabbed eight rebounds. Devan Carter chipped in 14 points.
Atoyebi leads the scoring attack at 14.4 points with Brett James close behind at 13.3 points per game. They also rank 1-2 in rebounding at 6.0 rpg and 5.2 rpg, respectively.
