Eagle Field Ribbon Cutting Set for Friday

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Athletic Department is planning a ribbon cutting to celebrate the latest improvements and additions to Eagle Field. The cutting is scheduled for 1 p.m. before the start of the Troy doubleheader on Friday.
The newest additions to the softball complex include locker rooms and bathrooms in a building behind the playing field. The new building will not only allow the players a place to prepare for the game but will also provide the fans a better gameday experience. The new locker rooms will be open for public viewing at noon.
“It is a nice change for the players, as it will give them a place that they can call home,” said head coach Maggie Johnson.
A new brick retaining wall was installed around the area behind home plate. Its addition will enhance the overall appearance of the stadium.
“It is going to be a bit of an adjustment for the girls when a ball goes to the backstop. When a pitch goes by the catcher, it now bounces right back which will make things interesting,” stated Johnson. “With the netting in place of the chain link backstop, it is also a really nice upgrade and adds better visibility for the fans.”
Over the past couple of years, the athletic department has added new seating, a press box and a new scoreboard to the softball complex.
Scheduled to join Athletics Director Sam Baker at the ribbon cutting are head coach Maggie Johnson; Senior Woman Administrator Cathy Beene; Joe Middleton and Robert Carpenter of JMA Architecture; John Lavender, Warren Holland and Nic Green of Lavender and Associates; Mike Dipple, Bonnie McMakin and William Cone of the Physical Plant.
