Seven Commit to Eagle Softball for 2011 Season

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Softball head coach Maggie Johnson recently announced the signing of seven student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. The recruiting class was announced following the fall signing period and the seven recruits will join the Eagles in the 2011 season.
"This year's signing class is one rich in talent and experience. We are anxious for their arrival to Georgia Southern and believe they will compliment the performance of our current team,” said coach Johnson. “The state of Georgia has some highly talented and competitive softball players, and we are fortunate to have signed some of the best athletes in the state."

Nicole Benton – Utility/P – Wrightsville, Ga. (Trinity Christian)
A switch hitting utility player from Wrightsville, Ga., Nicole Benton was a member of two GISA AA State softball championship teams and three GIA AA State Track Championships while competing at Trinity Christian School. For three seasons, Benton recorded the highest winning percentage among the pitching staff and was named All-Region as a sophomore, picking up Honorable Mention status as a junior. In 2008, she received the Crusader award for hard work and dedication.
Breigh Findlay – INF – Macon, Ga. (Rutland)
A two-time Scholar Athlete of the Year, Breigh Findlay lettered four years in softball at Rutland High School helping lead three squads to region championships. Findlay earned MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in 2009, while being named First Team All-Region 4AAA as a senior. She picked up First Team All-Region honors in 2007 and Second Team All-Region recognition in 2008. Findlay was also named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2008.
Sarah Purvis – INF/P – Warner Robins, Ga. (Northside)
A right-handed pitcher and infielder, Sarah Purvis went 14-6 with an ERA below 1.00 in the circle, while striking out 297 batters in 2009. Offensively, Purvis led the Eagles in a number of categories. A distinguished player at Northside, Purvis was named All-Middle Georgia, All-County, All-Region and All-State during her high school career. She also helped her team to the 2007 Region Championship. During her tenure, she pitched two 15 inning games against Lowndes County, striking out 22 in the first and 33 in the second.
Allie Miles – P – Dacula, Ga. (Dacula)
Allie Miles is a switch-hitting, 2008 Pitcher of the Year from Dacula, Ga. that led her team to a region championship in 2008. She was a two-time All-County breaking five school records including: most innings pitched in a game (14), wins in a career (35), strikeouts in a career (509), shutouts in a career (24), lowest ERA (0.35) and no hitters (2). In addition, Miles broke two state records striking out 23 in 10 innings and 19 in seven innings. She collected honors including the 2008 Sportsmanship Award, two-time All-State, Player of the Month and Gwinnett Daily Post Player of the Week.
Shelby Morrill – INF/OF – Madison, Ga. (Morgan County)
A tri-sport athlete at Morgan County High School, Shelby Morrill lettered in softball, basketball and track. Morrill was an All Region First Team selection in 2008 and 2009 and an Honorable Mention in 2006. She was named MVP her senior year and won the Offensive Award three consecutive years beginning in 2006.
Gabrielle Story – INF – Swainsboro, Ga. (David Emanuel Academy)
Gabrielle Story earned 15 letters at David Emanuel Academy, four in softball (basketball – 4, tennis – 4, track – 2, cheerleading – 1). Following her freshman year, she was named Team MVP and continued to pick up honors each year. Story was a four-time All-Region selection, three-time All-State and two-time Best Offensive Player of the Year. She was also named All-Region and All-State in basketball and three-time Region Champions in doubles tennis. Story traveled with the Georgia Heat and Georgia Xtreme.
Jorie Walker – INF – Dublin, Ga. (Middle Georgia College/Trinity Christian)
A junior-college transfer from Middle Georgia College, Jorie Walker helped the Warriors to a 36-16 season in 2008. Walker was a standout at Trinity Christian School, where she played for Krista Meadows. She lettered in softball, basketball, track & field and soccer and received a number of honors. Jorie was named All-Region, All-State and received team MVP and Coaches' Award honors.
