Georgia Southern Falls at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Looking for its first road win of the season, Willie Powers III (Gainesville, Fla.) and Ben Drayton III (Gainesville, Fla.) led Georgia Southern with 10 points each, but The Citadel outscored the Eagles, 68-43, Saturday afternoon (December 5) in McAlister Field House. The Bulldogs posted three players in double digit scoring. Johntavious Rucker (Decatur, Ga.) added eight points for Georgia Southern. The Eagles dropped to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the Southern Conference. The Citadel improved to 6-4, 1-1.
Georgia Southern shot 37.5 percent from the floor in the second half, dropping in only six buckets of 16 attempts. Overall, the Eagles shot 38.2 percent from the floor and 56.0 percent from the free throw line (14-25) and were held to the lowest scoring total since the 1998-1999 season when the Eagles lost at Florida State, 80-43.
Zach Urbanus' 20 points, 15 from 3-pointers, led The Citadel's offense. Urbanus picked up four treys in the opening half for a 14-point total at intermission. Cameron Wells and Austin Dahn added 14 and 10 points for the Bulldogs, respectively. The Citadel won the edge on glass, 33-to-31, led by Bryan Streeter's six boards. Tyler Troupe (Gallatin, Tenn.) paced the Eagles pulling down nine.
The Eagles struggled in the second half as The Citadel hit 10 field goals to Georgia Southern's six. Going 5-of-7 from the charity stripe in the first half, Georgia Southern picked up nine of its 23 points from the free throw line in the second (9-18). The Bulldogs went 11-of-14 (78.6 percent). Drayton and Hanson highlighted the second half with treys down the stretch. A combination of Dahn and Urbanus scored 11 points for the Bulldogs.
Joe Wolfinger opened the second half with consecutive field goals, stretching the Bulldog lead to 37-20. Cosmo Morabbi's second trey of the half pushed The Citadel's margin to 50-25 at the 13:17 marker. Ubranus had a chance for a four-point play being fouled on his final three-pointer of the game, but missed the free throw, pitting the score, 62-34. Over the final six minutes, the Eagles took six trips to the free throw line, connecting on four. Harrison DuPont closed out the game connecting on a pair of free throws to seal a 68-43 Bulldog win.
