Eagle Sports Marketing and the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management are teaming up again for the 2nd Annual Greek Appreciation Night at Hanner Fieldhouse to take place on Monday, February 2. The night will feature double-header action as our Lady Eagles take on Western Carolina at 5 p.m. and our Eagles play Appalachian State at 7:30 p.m.
Greek Appreciation Night will feature special promotions and presentations throughout both games exclusively for all Fraternity and Sorority members. Greek members will have the chance to take part in the Sir Shop Dress and Dash wheelbarrow race, Verizon Wireless Half Court Shot, The University Store Shot clock challenge, musical chairs at halftime, a Greek roll call session, the Subway shoot-out and a “Shake your tail feathers like GUS” dance-off! A special “Greek Night Champion” trophy will be awarded to the Greek organization with the highest member ratio and spirit.
The inaugural Greek Appreciation Night was held during the basketball double-header on Monday, Feb. 4, 2008 at Hanner Fieldhouse.
Close to 3,400 people were in attendance including members from 20 different Greek Life chapters at Georgia Southern University. Members of these fraternities and sororities were able to compete with and against each other in special games held exclusively during timeouts and halftimes. The members enjoyed cheering for the men and women's basketball teams and supporting their favorite Greek organization.
Dr. Teresa Thompson, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, crowned the first “Greek Night Champion” last year. The champion honors were split between two different organizations: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Theta Xi Fraternity. Their names were inscribed onto a trophy that is displayed at the Russell Union and they also split a free, full-page, full-color ad in the George Anne newspaper, courtesy of Student Media. A new winner will be added every year.
Come be a part of a growing, new tradition honoring Greek Life at Georgia Southern, as you root on your Men's and Women's Basketball teams, Monday, February 2!
