STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Cross Country team has released its 2008 schedule.
The Eagles get things started Friday at the University of South Carolina Invitational. The 5k meet is set for 5pm.
Four current cross country members competed in this Invitational a season ago. They are: Laura Fuller (Cartersville, Ga.), Shauntel Jennings (Stone Mountain, Ga.), Kassie Lee (Elberton, Ga.) and Kellie Wesson (Douglasville, Ga.).
Jennings ran the best returning time in last year's meet, with a 20:58.80.
I am excited about the season because we have put together a group of young ladies that I believe will not only compete well but that will represent Georgia Southern with class and they are all true student-athletes. We have three returners on the team in Shauntel Jennings, Laura Fuller, and Kassi Lee and four newcomers in Azura Robillard, Leah Bradley, Melissa Royer and Brittani Martin. Starting this first meet at the University of South Carolina is going to be a tough opener but I believe that these ladies will do well," said Coach Smith.
Georgia Southern placed 10th out of 13 teams Division I teams.
South Carolina will be the host team for the meet. Other teams participating include: Benedict College, Catawba College, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Mercer, Presbyterian College, Savannah College of Art & Design, South Carolina State, The Citadel, UNC Pembroke, USC Aiken, USC Beaufort and Vorhees College.
