STATESBORO, Ga. --- The Eagles continue their eight-game homestand Wednesday with a non-conference doubleheader against Florida A&M.
This stretch at home is interrupted with a weekend series at UNC Greensboro then continues with six more games at Eagle Field.
GSU has won three of its past four outings, all against SoCon teams, including taking two of three from Elon last weekend. FAMU has lost nine of 11 and has allowed 11 or more runs in each of the last four games.
Jumping out to an early lead has been the key to the Eagles' success. GSU has outscored the opposition 43-15 in the first inning alone and has a 14-7 record when recording a run in the opening frame. Georgia Southern scored in the first inning in all three Elon games.
Junior Robyne Siliga, the reigning SoCon Player of the Week, tallied a first-inning hit in each Elon game and had seven safeties for the series. She has a six-game hitting streak with two or more hits five times during that stretch. She ranks second in the league with a .400 average and needs five RBI to tie the GSU single-season record.
Siliga shared the spotlight this week with senior Melissa Laliberte who claimed the conference's pitcher of the week honors. Laliberte tossed two complete-game victories vs. Elon to increase her win total to 11, third-best in the SoCon. Her 1.64 ERA leads the league.
First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
