Graham, Powers Earn SoCon Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Georgia Southern senior Louis Graham and freshman Willie Powers were recognized Tuesday as the Southern Conference Sports Media Association announced its 2008 men's basketball awards.
Graham was tabbed to the All-SoCon First Team and Powers was named to the All-Freshman Team.
Graham receives all-conference distinction for the third straight year but is on the first team for the first time. He averaged 16.8 points and 6.6 rebounds in the regular season. His scoring average is a career high and third-best in the league. He was named the conference's player of the week twice, has six double-doubles on the season and 30 for his career.
The West Palm Beach, Fla. native is the program's all-time leading shot blocker with 207 and ranks fourth in rebounds (898), seventh in scoring (1,565) and fifth in field goals.
Powers becomes the sixth GSU player to be named to the all-freshman team and the first since Graham in 2005. Powers was second on the team in scoring (11.4 ppg), assists (80) and 3-pointers (46). The Gainesville, Fla. product started 30 times in his rookie campaign and began his career with 10 double-digit scoring performances in his first 11 games.
Davidson's Stephen Curry was named Malcolm U. Pitt Player of the Year and head coach Bob McKillop was tabbed the Anton Foy Coach of the Year. Cameron Wells from The Citadel was the Freshman of the Year.
The coaches' all-conference teams will be released Thursday.
