Georgia Southern Visits UNC Greensboro in Conference Match-up

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Georgia Southern women's basketball team looks to rebound after a heartbreaking loss at Kennesaw State Monday night. The Lady Eagles wrap up this two-game road trip with a tough conference match-up against UNC Greensboro Wednesday night (Dec. 17). Tip-off at Fleming Gym is slated for 7 p.m.
Both teams stand atop the Southern Conference standings, as both boast a 2-0 league mark. Georgia Southern has claimed victories over Appalachian State and Elon, while UNCG recorded wins over College of Charleston and Elon.
In their last contest, the Lady Eagles (6-3, 2-0) fell to Kennesaw State University, 82-61. Samantha Williams (Kingsport, TN) and J'Lisia Ogburn (Dublin, Ga.) both led the team in scoring, each chipping in 12 points. Ashley Melson (Newnan, Ga.) was the third Eagle to score in double digits, contributing ten to Georgia Southern's 61 overall. Jamie Navarro (Naples, Fl.) matched her career high in rebounds, claiming seven boards.
The Spartans improved to 4-5 overall after a 50-39 victory over Fordham (Dec. 13). Gini Grimsley proved she was the top scorer for the Spartans having tossed in a team high 16 points. It was a three-way tie for top rebounder as three players gathered seven each. The Spartans are on a three-game win streak having beaten College of Charleston, Elon and Fordham in their last three match-ups.
UNCG boasts a 3-2 record on its home court this season and leads the series against Georgia Southern, 16-12. In the last contest between the two rivals, Georgia Southern comfortably took the win with a 68-57 margin in Statesboro. The Lady Eagles are 3-9 against the Spartans in Greensboro.
