Men's Basketball Travels to UTEP Tuesday

Georgia Southern ventures to the state of Texas for the second straight year to take on UTEP Tuesday night.
The Eagles, who traveled to Corpus Christi last season, face the Miners for the first time ever.
GSU won their home opener Friday over Reinhardt 96-61 and enter the game with a 2-1 record.
“We view every game as a game that's winnable,” said head coach Jeff Price. “If we go in there and are confident and we do what we've prepared to do, then we'll give ourselves a chance to win on the road.”
Friday's tilt allowed five of the team's six new players to see significant game action. The three top scorers, led by Antonio Hanson's 19, are in their first season at Georgia Southern.
“It was good for them to get experience and I thought some of our young guys played well,” said Price. “Anytime you have success then you become more confident.”
Hanson, a junior college transfer, hit five of his six 3-point attempts and Tyler Troupe, also a JuCo transfer, recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Ben Drayton III had 12 points and four assists.
Troupe's 12 boards helped GSU win the rebounding battle 46-36. The battle of the boards has been key so far: in two wins the Eagles are +18; in the loss to Duke, the margin was -22.
“Rebounding is one of the, if not the most important, things in the game,” said Price. “I've had concerns about that with our team. The games we've rebounded well, we've won.”
Georgia Southern face their second Conference USA opponent in UTEP. The Miners went 19-14 last season to earn an invitation to the CBI Tournament and return the nation's seventh-leading scorer in Stefon Jackson who averaged 23.6 ppg.
UTEP led by as many as 14 in their season-opener Friday against Texas Southern, but held off a late rally to win 69-63.
“They're an extremely talented basketball team,” said Price. “They're really athletic and up-tempo, they push the ball, they'll press and they're going to make us match their intensity level. They're a very active team.”
The Miners scored 18 points Friday off 15 turnovers which does not bode well for the Eagles. GSU has yet to commit fewer turnovers than their opponent and average 19.3 miscues per game.
“We need to take care of the ball on the road and we have learned that you have to handle the basketball on the road,” said Price. “We have to be able to play in that atmosphere, which is a tremendous atmosphere at UTEP.”
