STATESBORO, Ga. --- Georgia Southern head men's basketball coach Jeff Price has announced the signing of Toarlyn Fitzpatrick for the 2009-10 season.
Fitzpatrick, a 6-8, 230 power forward from King High School in Tampa, Fla., is rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com.
“It's a great get for our program to sign, what I feel, is one of the top players in the state of Florida,” said Price. “We feel like he was a freshman that could come in and contribute right away with some presence inside. He's an extremely hard worker and a great kid and is a really good fit for us.”
Fitzpatrick was named one of the Top Five Players to Watch during the preseason by the Tampa Tribune. He was named to the Tribune All-County Team as a junior after averaging 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
He led the Lions to a 15-8 record last season and a Alonso Holiday Classic championship, earning Tournament MVP honors. He was also an All-Western Conference and All-Bay Area Suncoast Team honoree.
As a sophomore Fitzpatrick averaged 15.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per outing and was tabbed to the All-Western Conference and All-Hillsborough County teams.
Georgia Southern went 20-12 overall and 13-7 in the Southern Conference last season. It was the program's third 20-win season in the past five years.
