“Davidson is a real good team and is well coached. The game could have gone either way as both teams had opportunities, but we pulled it out,” said head coach Kevin Kennedy.
The Eagles are now 6-8-0 (3-3-0) on the season, while the Davidson Wildcats fall to 4-13-1 (2-5-0).
The Eagles got on the board first in the 23rd minute of play. Steele scored the first goal of the match off of a long throw in from Jon Kinsler (
“The first goal was a set piece we had been working on and were excited that it worked,” stated coach Kennedy. “Austin Steele was able to flick it in for the score, but we didn't hold that and gave up a score five minutes later.”
Davidson responded five minutes later with a goal of their own. Kyle Engle scored off of a long crossing pass by Charlie Reiter.
The match would head to overtime with a score of 1-1. It seemed to be headed to a second overtime, but Sandoval scored with less than a minute left to give the Eagles a 2-1 victory. He scored from six yards off of a through pass from B.J. Reine (
"Sean Sandoval made an outstanding run from the middle back postion, and B.J. Reine was able to find him for the score,” said coach Kennedy.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday against UNC Greensboro at 2:00 p.m. at Eagle Field.
