STATESBORO, Ga. --- Preparations for the 2008-09 basketball season began in earnest Friday when Georgia Southern held their first official workouts at Hanner Fieldhouse.
Head coach Jeff Price, who enters his 10th season in charge, welcomes back nine letterwinners and two starters from last year's 20-12 (13-7) team.
“I think everybody's ready to get going,” said Price. “We've had plenty of individual workouts and we're ready to get together as a team and see where we're at. It's going to take some time with six new players but hopefully we'll come along pretty quick.”
The Eagles open up at the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer in Durham, N.C. They will face Houston Nov. 10 at 4 p.m.
The team's early workouts will be geared toward the defensive end of the floor.
“We'll work on a little bit of everything,” said Price. “Our early practices will be focused mostly on defense, which we've been doing a lot of during individual workouts so we'll see if we get some team carryover. Every day we'll put something in offensively. More importantly we're just trying to develop chemistry.”
